Inclusive playgrounds encourage children to play and explore while eliminating social and physical barriers. As a parent, I really appreciate the inclusive playgrounds throughout Johnson County Kansas because they are typically very accessible for my young children. Shawnee Mission Park isn’t just a single park. This park actually has over 1,500 acres of park space, including a lake! Multiple shelters have a playground nearby, but the crowned jewel is Shawnee Mission Park’s Inclusive Playground!
This playground is right next to the disc golf course and walking trails with a large parking lot. Shawnee Mission Park is another inclusive playground in the Kansas City metro with a completely fenced in park with restrooms available. There is a similar style park at Strang Park in Overland Park, KS.
There are two levels to this all-ages park with a large rope climbing structure at the top level and a lower level with swings, climbing equipment, music, a water mister, a toddler area, and more. We enjoy Shawnee Mission park all year long but summertime is wonderful here with the morning shade from the trees nearby!
